The Sara Bareilles Fan Community
Hey everyone, it's me w/ another enticing discussion of our fav, lol...
Well I was thinking, when K.H dropped, I actually was surprised. I thought the album
would be different. With songs like August Moon, Free Ride, Anchors Away, etc...
I expected the album to have a more pop/rock edge. But we saw something else.
So for album # 3, what are your thoughts...? Will it come out in 2012? What direction?
What type of songs? Etc? What do we want to hear of Sara? Just food for thought.
P.S.: Might sound crazy... but to you who have her contact info... Could someone ask if
she'd ever be interested in looking back & re-recording one of her old tracks as maybe an
itunes exclusive or something? I think "Undertow" would sound awesome w/ a Basie type jazz
band behind it. Then again, if I had it... I'd pay to her to re-record every song I liked, lol.
Athem, anyone know Bill Gates?

The only new song that is out there that I know about is Beautiful Girl which is definitely an older Sara-style (less pop/rock) than some of her stuff on KH. Song for a Soldier sort of sounds like the older Sara too, so she may be going back to her roots a bit. Maybe that's the direction she's taking now?
Agree with Undertow and a Basie type jazz band. That song always had a sort of 40's feel to it.We've talked about this before but, yeah, she needs to ressurect some of her older stuff.
On a personal level, I would love for Sara to do one of the Nat King Cole songs just for fun. Something like Autumn Leaves. Not because it should be on a new album (it shouldn't) but just to see how her magnificent voice could handle older stuff. (Some of her fans probably would freak out though :) )
Is Beautiful Girl the only new song she's done on her current tour? It's the only one I can think of.

I agree with you William, she has never talked about a third album. I think she may be writing these days as she has some time off. Maybe for the new EP, maybe for a new album. But I don't think we can expect a 3rd album so soon, you know. KH was released only a year ago. I know that artists like Rihanna drop albums very easily, but I believe Sara wants to do it right and will take the time that she needs to make something great.
I can't really think of the direction she is taking, because recently, we only heard Beautiful Girl. She might change her sound a little bit for the EP with Ben Folds and make something different. I think that's the point to make an EP. You can explore some new sounds.
Oh and excuse my English. I'm tired. :)
Permalink Reply by Tom on September 29, 2011 at 4:51pm She stated in an interview a few yrs back saying her 10yr plan is to make a few more records
& maybe start her own label. But I hear ya guys...
I'm just looking at history. If I may...
Matchbox Twenty's 1st album dropped 1996 (5 hit singles)
2nd album was 2000 (And had a lot of build) (3 hits)
3rd album was 2002. And that one had 3 major hit singles.
Not saying Sara & them are the same, just saying... It is possible where in a short time
span an artist can somewhere find inspiration & just go w/ it. Ya see the first album is a
build up of X amount of yrs of hard work. But the second album is dangerous, no artist wants
to be a one hit wonder. So depending on the 2nd album, dictates #3. Now the album opened at #1.
And initially the record label wanted her 2nd album out in '09. Plus with these new avenues of exposure... I'd say it'd be very smart for her to run w/ it. Of course, be true... but don't loose sight.
So, who knows? I started this more as... "What would we want to hear?" Personally, I'd like her to amp
it up a little.
Permalink Reply by William on September 29, 2011 at 5:09pm What do mean by "amp it up" a little? Little more in a rock direction?
I ask because of course she's a lot more dynamic on the stage now than earlier and I think KH has let
her do that because of songs like Let the Rain. IMO,she seems to really enjoy it.
I was at the HoB in Boston when she got up on her piano to sing. Quite different from the person touring during the Gravity Tour.
Also, I agree with Clement. She seems to need time to do her albums the way she wants. She said in an interview for Austin City that she first writes for herself and then her audience. So she just may take her own time to do it. Hopefully not as long as Enya who releases albums every 5 years lol.
Permalink Reply by Tom on September 30, 2011 at 8:34am Yes... amp = rock, lol. You see, K.H. was the first album of her's I anticaipated.
And following what she wrote after L.V.. "August Moon", "Free Ride", + working w/
Neal Avron... she seemed to be going more in the rock/pop direction.
Also, I'll be honest, the way she was "struggling" w/ writing new material at the time
made me fear that she may force herself to write new material b/c the label wants to
release something before she's "forgotten". That type of pressure can make an artist
release material they might not be too proud of.
Permalink Reply by Tom on September 29, 2011 at 4:57pm Note: About old/new Sara. By style, Sara has a very mellow, relaxed, soulful approach to music.
Kinda like "Starbucks esque, but w/ some life to it". The record label helps her fine tune some things
appropriately. Ex: "Love on the Rocks" in C.C. compared to L.V.. More upbeat. Same w/ "City". Eric
Rosse did a wonderful job separating the emotions. Still Sara, just producer assisted.
K.H. took her to new extremes "Say You're Sorry" & "Hold My Heart", lyrically Sara... but produced/arranged.
You can tell she was assisted, which is a producer's job.
Permalink Reply by William on September 30, 2011 at 9:16am Got my wish about Sara singing older pop songs.
Sara is going to be on Epix Channel tonight at 8 ET doing "Singin' in Concert" with Seth McFarlane. She sings 2 with him one of which is "Two Sleepy People" .There's a 39 piece band backing them up.
I just watched it online and Sara is great. She's so beautiful on stage I almost fell off my chair.
